Start date calculator

Pick your start date and this calculator gives you the finish date, plus the day 25, halfway and day 50 milestones. Seventy-five days is roughly two and a half months, which means the season and your schedule will both change while you are inside the challenge.

How the count works

Day 1 is the first day you complete every task, and the count is inclusive — so day 75 is 74 days after you start, not 75. In a non-leap year, starting on 1 January means finishing on 16 March.

Seventy-five days is ten weeks and five days. That length is the reason these challenges work and also the reason most of them end early: it is long enough to build a habit, and long enough for a holiday, a deadline, an illness and a change of season to all land inside the window.

Check the calendar before you commit

This is the five minutes that decides whether you finish. Put your finish date in, then look at what sits between today and it:

The best start date is the earliest one you will actually honour. Waiting for Monday, the 1st, or the new year costs real days — but starting the evening before a four-day trip costs the whole attempt. Pick the first clear morning and use it.

What to do with the milestone dates

Put day 25, day 38 and day 50 in your calendar now, as the days you review photos rather than take them. Daily comparison tells you nothing; three checkpoints across eleven weeks tell you everything — and they give the middle stretch, where challenges quietly die, something to aim at.

Questions people actually ask

Does day one count as day one or day zero?

Day one is the first day you complete every task, and the count is inclusive — day 75 falls 74 days after you start. Starting on 1 January means finishing on 16 March in a normal year, 15 March in a leap year.

Should you plan the start date around holidays?

Look at what lands inside the window before you commit — on 75 Hard a wedding or a holiday with no alcohol allowance is where most attempts end. On 75 Soft it matters far less.

Is there a best time of year to start?

The one you will actually begin. That said, the outdoor workout is much harder in deep winter, so a start in autumn means the hardest weather lands in the second half, when the habit is already built.
